How AQA GCSE Biology is examined
AQA GCSE Biology (8461) is assessed by two written papers of 1 hour 45 minutes, each worth 100 marks and 50% of the grade. Paper 1 covers cell biology, organisation, infection and response, and bioenergetics. Paper 2 covers homeostasis and response, inheritance, variation and evolution, and ecology. Both papers are available at Foundation and Higher tier, and both include questions on the required practicals.
Students taking Combined Science: Trilogy sit two shorter biology papers of 1 hour 15 minutes (70 marks each) drawn from the same seven topics, minus the Separate Science only content. Our notes mark which points are Separate only and which are Higher only, so you revise exactly what your course needs.
